Trick I
I have read so many questions how to unlock password-protected memory card. This happens very frequently to some of us. Usually for security reasons, we protect our memory cards with password. It can be done from Memory Card application by selecting Options | Set password menu.
For S60 1st and 2nd Phones
What should we do if we forget the password? For S60 1st and some of 2nd phones, such as Nokia 3650, Nokia 6600 and Nokia N-Gage, the password is stored in a plain text file.
- Firstly, you need to install FExplorer, a free file manager that allows us to browser through S60 file system.
- Next, launch FExplorer and then browser to c:\system folder. There is a file, called mmcstore.
- Rename the file to mmcstore.txt and then open it. Your password must be several characters at the end of the file.
For S60 3rd Phones, Nokia N-Series and Nokia E-Series
Unfortunately, there is no way to recover the password in the latest S60 phones. The only way that I know so far is by
reformatting the memory card. It can be done from Memory Card application by selecting Options | Format memory card menu. Of course, you will lose all your data in the memory card…
If any of you have experience unlocking password of memory card in latest S60 phones, feel free to share it here.
Trick II
My suggestion was to reformat the memory card. The posting tends to be very popular one. Many people solved their problem by reformatting their memory cards.
However, some other people still have password on their memory card even though they never set it. Apparently this problem occurs on some phones, mostly happens on
Nokia Eseries phones.
How to solve the problem? If, for some reasons, you activate
remote lock option on your phone, it will change your memory card’s password too. Just for your information, remote lock option allows you to lock your phone by sending SMS to it. It is a nice feature if you accidentally left your phone somewhere and you don’t want other people using it. You can activate this feature from
Tools | Settings | Security | Phone and SIM | Allow remote lock menu. The password of your memory card will be your
remote lock message.
So, if you still remember your remote lock message, then try to unlock your memory card’s password using that message.
